This is a classic surf film from 1999. Jack Johnson actually made this film. Chris Malloy did the art direction. Even if you’re not a surfer, this is a beautiful film about surfing and the lifestyle of these professional athletes.
This isn’t an in your face, punk rock surf flick. It is mellow and beautiful. There are amazing water shots that bring you right into the action. You can see how much "spray" Shane Dorian throws out the back, or experience a Rob Machado "off the top" up close and personal.
This film is a work of art, the cinematography and soundtrack really add to the feeling of this film. This was the "Tommorrowland" surf trip that was featured in SURFER magazine.
Features the freesurfing of New School surfers Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Brad Gerlach, Ross Williams, and Shane Dorian surfing the perfect reefbreaks of The Mentawais in the South Pacific. Kelly Slater had just won his 6th World Title, before his retirement and eventual comeback. You can see how relaxed he is in his surfing. There are super hollow rights and lefts, and the surfing is incredible. Kelly attempts a couple backside Rodeo flips.
The soundtrack is excellent, features Jack Johnson among others and fits really well with the film. It’s great to hear these guys talk about their surfing, and how they feel. Kelly, and Rob talk alot on the film about soul surfing and getting away from competitions while the beauty of the film speaks for itself. A classic for all surfers
